AVIMO is comprised of tribal members and non-Indians, veterans and non-veterans, whose goal is to construct a memorial to the American Indian Veteran. AVIMO's function is to acquire the necessary funding for the design and construction of a self-sustaining edifice.

American Indian Tribes and Nations, national American Indian organizations and municipalities recognize the American Indian Veteran Organization. AVIMO is incorporated under the laws of the United States of America and approved as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization under as per the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.
